OP Martial Arts student wins tourney title

On June 24, Orchard Park Martial Arts travelled to Augusta, Maine, for the Isshinryu World Karate Association (IWKA) World Championships. The tournament is held every two years and is attended by the Grand Master of Isshinryu Karate, Kichiro Shimabuku, and competitors from around the world.

One of the students, Lauren Zielinski, a 14-year-old brown belt in Isshinryu Karate, took first place in kata (forms), first place in weapons and second place in fighting in her divisions.

This earned her a spot in the Grand Champion round, presided over by Shimabuku. Competing against all of the winners from the other teenagers under black belt divisions, Zielinski ultimately won and earned the World Champion title and was presented her trophy by Shimabuku.

Orchard Park Martial Arts teaches Isshinryu Karate, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and fitness classes to kids and adults.

Orchard Park Martial Arts will be holding three summer camps at 227 Thorn Ave. in Orchard Park. They will run the weeks of July 24-28, July 31-Aug. 4 and Aug. 7-11.
